Show Notes: Why Won’t They Respect My Boundaries?
Hey, hey friend! Welcome to Episode #232 of The Secrets of Supermom Show!
I sat down with the amazing Ana Jorge to talk all about how busy working moms can set boundaries that actually stick—and do it without guilt. Anna shares her 8-step formula for creating and holding boundaries in both your personal and professional life, plus real-world examples and scripts you can try today.
Why Boundaries Matter for Working Moms
Ana reminds us that boundaries aren’t just about keeping people out—they’re about protecting your energy, your time, and your peace. And while setting them can feel awkward or even scary at first, the long-term payoff is totally worth it.
She breaks down her 8-step formula for setting boundaries that work:
- Recognize the issue – What’s the recurring frustration or tension?
- Understand the cost – What’s it costing you to not set the boundary?
- Get clear on what you want – What would feel better?
- Identify the fear – What are you afraid might happen if you set the boundary?
- Determine the benefit – What will improve when you follow through?
- Create a system – Like the $10 “charger jar” her family uses!
- Practice the script – Yes, literally write it out and rehearse it.
- Communicate clearly – Without resentment, in a calm moment.
What If They Still Don’t Respect My Boundary?
One of the biggest struggles moms shared was, “I’ve communicated the boundary—but I still feel like I have to enforce it constantly.”
Here’s the key: Enforcement = Consequence.
It’s not just about stating the boundary; it’s about following through. You can’t control other people’s behavior—but you can control your own.
Try This Script:
“If you keep calling me to vent for more than 10 minutes, I’m going to need to change the subject or end the call.”
Simple. Clear. Calm. And most of all—repeatable.
And guess what? According to Ana, 90% of the time when her clients use this kind of clear and kind communication, the other person says, “Oh wow, you’re right. Okay!” It gets easier every time you do it.
Boundaries at Work: A Real Example
Ana shared a powerful moment from her time as a manager. She used to send emails late at night—her quiet work time—but noticed it made her team feel pressured to respond immediately. Even though she said there was no rush, the action sent a different message.
So she switched things up, scheduling emails to send during work hours. That small change improved team communication and created healthier boundaries for everyone.

What You Can Do Today
Your tiny step for today:
Think of one simple boundary that’s been on your heart—maybe something small, like not sharing your phone charger or asking for 10 minutes of quiet time.
Now, write down a short script to communicate that boundary. Rehearse it in your head or out loud. Then… say it.
That’s it. One step toward less stress, more clarity, and better relationships.
