Show Notes: The #1 Mistake Moms Make with Summer Planning
Hey, hey friend! Welcome to Episode #237 of The Secrets of Supermom Show!
If the thought of summer coming makes you feel a little anxious instead of excited, this episode is for you. As a busy mom juggling work, life, and all the things—summer planning can feel like a full-time job in itself.
In this episode of The Secrets of Supermom Show, we’re diving into the #1 mistake moms make when planning their summer… and how to avoid it so you can actually enjoy your summer with your kids without feeling totally overwhelmed and burned out.
Are You Overplanning Summer?
Let’s be real: there are usually two types of summer moms:
- The “Go With the Flow” Mom – You have all these dreamy ideas about summer fun… but don’t actually plan them. And suddenly, it’s August, and you’re wondering where the time went.
- The “Plan Every Minute” Mom – You fill your calendar with camps, vacations, lessons, and activities to make sure no minute goes to waste… but end up feeling more exhausted than during the school year.
Sound familiar? 😅
If you fall into the second camp (like most of us Supermoms), you might be making the biggest summer mistake of all: over-scheduling every moment in the name of “making memories.”
What Happens When We Overschedule?
When your family calendar looks like a logistical nightmare, here’s what can happen:
- Zero downtime for anyone (including YOU)
- Kids go from school burnout straight into summer burnout
- Family time becomes just “logistics bonding”—rushing from one thing to the next
- Your own goals and rest get squeezed into the cracks of everyone else’s schedule
- You find yourself counting down the days until school starts again instead of soaking in the summer sunshine
Not exactly the peaceful, joy-filled summer you had in mind, right?
What If Summer Could Feel Different This Year?
Here’s a radical idea: What if we made intentional summer plans instead of defaulting to over-planning?
Before jumping into summer camp registrations or booking every single weekend, pause and ask yourself:
“What do I actually want from this summer?”
Maybe it’s:
- More unscheduled weekends
- Lazy mornings and spontaneous adventures
- A few intentional trips or activities
- Time to recharge—for your kids and for you
That’s what I’m doing this year. My kids are now old enough to be home without needing constant attention, so we’re choosing some camps and some adventures—but also leaving space for breathing room and fun.
We’re finally creating weekends with nothing on the calendar… and it feels amazing.
Your Summer Planning Doesn’t Need to Be Perfect—It Just Needs to Be Yours
Let go of the guilt about “only having 18 summers.” You get more than 18. You get to choose what this summer looks like for your family—and it doesn’t have to include back-to-back activities or Pinterest-perfect vacations.
A peaceful summer isn’t about cramming everything in. It’s about protecting your time, your energy, and your connection with your kids.
You can:
- Say “yes” to camps and “no” to chaos
- Schedule fun and leave room for spontaneity
- Be productive without being overwhelmed
And if you need help making that happen…
