About Our Guest: Ann Marie Wakula
Prior to becoming a NASM-certified personal trainer and Macro Nutrition coach, Ann Marie personally tried and tested every possible solution for weight loss. From marathon running to fitness classes, keto, low carb, strict diet plans; it was a running joke with her girlfriends, “Ann Marie will try it first. If it works, game on!” Except after a while, nothing worked and she was left feeling frustrated, defeated and deprived.
Now, at 43 years old, Ann Marie is feeling her best physically, mentally and emotionally. “I can honestly say, I wouldn’t turn back the clock to feel 20 again – if I knew then what I know now – I can’t even imagine where I’d be today.”
And that is what she wants for each of her clients – diet freedom, confidence and knowledge behind food + fitness choices that work best for our aging bodies.
“I want to help you commit to yourself, change your vision of perfection, and accept that you are giving all that you can into creating a fit and healthy lifestyle, knowing that it looks different for each one of us.”
My Story
I wasn’t always healthy and fit. Before I started surrounding myself with the right coaches and educating myself on how to workout for my age and future self, I was completely lost. I was a cardio queen with minimal strength training experience. My mental state was consumed with the 1990s dieters mentality of “eat less, do more cardio” so I was stuck in a vicious cycle of doing more cardio to make up for weekend calories coupled with low calorie week days and “rewarding” myself on the weekend.
Want to know where it got me? Nowhere.
At one point, I even found myself signing up for a 1/2 marathon because I hated cardio but knew if I committed to a friend, I would show up for her. Another dead end right there. I like to say I had workout ADD. Boutique fitness studios popping up all over town with me signing up for the latest and greatest workout to achieve the lean, toned physique they promised. Granted I’ve always been the around the ideal weight for my size, but I wanted to SEE the muscles behind the work, yet whatever I tried, they never seemed to pop up.
I finally decided to work with a personal trainer because I was pretty intimidated by the gym. I wanted to learn the proper way to lift without “getting bulky.” Another misconception that was engrained in my head. At that point, I was introduced to macros and started paying closer attention to what I was eating + food quality. Although I was following a super strict diet, my body was starting to change and I was really liking the results.
Staying dedicated to my workout schedule has always been easy for me but following a strict diet plan is no way to live. (I was pretty miserable in that show photo). I knew there had to be an easier, more sustainable way to tweak my strict macro diet into something more flexible….
That is when I decided to become a NASM CPT + Certified Macro Coach.
Life is full of lessons that we all have to go through in order to grow, change and adapt. When I look at the length of time it took me to figure out sustainable, healthy mindset towards my body, I’m reminded of when I first tried dieting in college. From that point forward it was a cycle of always chasing a number on the scale. It wasn’t until my 30s that I learned the secret to feeling really amazing in my skin, muscle building, nurturing my metabolism and hormone function, so that I could utilize these tools for life.
Going through this process was truly an aha moment for me. “What if I could not only coach women, but teach them how to be successful with diet and exercise so that they feel empowered by their choices.”
This is where Body AMplifed was born.
A conversational two-way, coaching/learning relationship between my clients and myself. I pride my business on giving clients the tools and knowledge to be successful on their own, so they don’t have to roller coaster through diet restriction, random workouts and chasing weight loss constantly.
It’s our vision to bring together women age 40+ that want to deepen their understanding of fitness and nutrition in order to rebuild their metabolism, create a healthy body and establish a positive mindset that allows them to stop obsessing over the scale so that they can appreciate and love their body without hours of exercise and food restriction to look and feel optimal at any age.
