How to Envision Your Best Year Ever: Part 1

December 5, 2024

Why should you cast a vision in the first place? Is it really that important? Today we are talking about…

⇒ Why you likely haven’t hit goals in the past (or maybe even set them at all)

⇒ Why you haven’t been motivated in the past

⇒ Why goals aren’t actually the goal

It all comes down to vision.

When you have a clear vision of what you want (and don’t want) for your life, the goals become clear. However, for many of us, casting that life’s vision feels almost impossible. How can you possibly know what you want from your entire life?

In today’s episode, we dive into…

⇒ Finding the breadcrumbs of what you really want

⇒ A review of your previous year and what that does for your brain

⇒ Key questions to ask yourself as you think about your past

And if you are committed to making 2025 your year, I can’t wait to see you in the How to Plan Your Best Year Ever Workshop! Head to www.secretsofsupermom.com/plan to grab your seat now. We have one saved just for you!

December is here, and with it comes the perfect opportunity to dream big and prepare for an amazing 2025. If you’ve ever felt like your resolutions start strong but fade fast, you’re not alone. This is why casting a clear vision before setting your goals is so important. Today, I’m sharing why this step is a game-changer and how you can get started with simple, actionable steps. Let’s dive in!

Why a Vision Beats Random Resolutions

We’ve all been there:

  • “Lose 20 pounds.”
  • “Read more books.”
  • “Be less stressed.”

These random goals sound great in theory, but when they’re not connected to a bigger vision, it’s tough to stay consistent—especially when life gets hard. Instead of being a stepping stone toward a meaningful life, these goals often become another box to check…or abandon.

A vision changes everything. It’s your purpose, your “why.” It’s the guiding light that makes decisions clearer, boundaries easier to set, and hard choices less daunting. When you have a compelling vision, you’re not just chasing a goal; you’re building a life you love.

The Research Backs It Up

If you’re a research nerd like me, you’ll love this: studies show that having a clear vision increases hope, motivation, and optimism. Imagine tackling your goals with more of those three things in your back pocket—how much easier would it be to stick with them?

Step One: Find Your Breadcrumbs

Starting your vision doesn’t have to feel overwhelming. Let’s keep it simple by “finding the breadcrumbs” of what you really want. These are little clues from your life that point to what truly excites and fulfills you. Ask yourself:

  • What books or magazines have you loved?
  • What projects or hobbies have drawn your interest?
  • What activities or experiences made you feel alive this past year?

Even your Pinterest boards can be a goldmine of insights. Maybe you’ve pinned beautiful travel photos and realize you’re craving a vacation. Or perhaps you’ve saved ideas for a book club because you love connecting with others over great stories.

Spend just 10–15 minutes brainstorming these breadcrumbs. No pressure—just let the ideas flow. Jot them down as bullet points, a mind map, or even a simple list.

Step Two: Review Your Year

Next, take a high-level look back at your past year. Flip through your calendar or scroll through your digital planner. Reflect on:

  • What lit you up? What drained you?
  • What felt like a priority? What felt like an obligation?
  • What events or routines made you lose track of time in the best way?

And here’s a big one: ask yourself what you might be tolerating that’s no longer serving you. If I told you you never had to do something again, what immediately comes to mind? Identifying these things can help you make space for what truly matters.

Homework for the Week

This week, spend a little time exploring these questions. Write down your breadcrumbs, review your calendar, and reflect on your year. Don’t overthink it—this is just the beginning of casting your vision for 2025.
