Episode 249 | Featuring Sarah Rau
Do you ever feel like you’re running on caffeine, sugar, and sheer willpower… and still crashing by 3 PM?
You’re not alone, friend.
Today on The Secrets of Supermom Show, I’m joined by Sarah Rau, a full-time accountant, health and wellness coach, mom of two busy teens, and Supermom Summer Camp alum. Sarah knows firsthand how easy it is to get stuck in what she calls the survival cycle—running on high-sugar snacks and coffee to get through the day, then winding down with wine at night, only to wake up feeling more tired than before.
We’re talking about how to break that cycle, boost your energy naturally, and build healthy habits that actually fit your real life—even if you’re juggling work, kids, and a to-do list a mile long. And, if you’ve listened to Episode 247 about cycle syncing or Episode 248 about mineral deficiency, you’ll see exactly how Sarah’s strategies connect. Just like cycle syncing helps you work with your body’s natural rhythms, and mineral balance supports energy from the inside out, Sarah’s “bridge” approach helps you move from knowing what to do… to actually doing it, in a way that’s sustainable.

Show Notes: How to Boost Energy & Break the Survival Cycle
Hey, hey friend! Welcome to Episode #249 of The Secrets of Supermom Show!
Why We Get Stuck in the Survival Cycle
For busy moms, energy crashes aren’t just about a lack of sleep. Sarah explains that:
- Blood sugar spikes from sugary snacks and drinks cause short bursts of energy followed by hard crashes.
- Stress hormones can get out of balance, making it harder to rest, recover, and feel calm.
- Without intentional recovery time, movement, and nutrient-dense foods, we stay in a constant loop of wired-and-tired.
The tricky part? Even though we don’t feel great, the habits keeping us stuck feel easy—and change feels hard.
Building Your Personal “Energy Bridge”
Sarah uses a bridge analogy to help her clients go from knowing what to do… to making it happen.
Your bridge might include:
- Planks (Movement): Small, intentional movement to regulate blood sugar, calm the nervous system, and improve mood.
- Handrails (Support Habits): Adequate sleep, self-care moments, and stress regulation techniques.
- Supports (Mindset Shifts): Building mental flexibility so a slip-up doesn’t send you back to square one.
The best part? This bridge is yours. It’s flexible, sustainable, and built to fit your actual life—not a rigid plan that crumbles the first time your schedule changes.
Energy + Weight Loss Without the Crash
If you’re trying to lose weight but don’t want to sacrifice energy, Sarah recommends:
- Fuel First: Focus on nutrient-dense foods before cutting calories.
- Add Before Subtracting: Introduce healthy habits (like more water) before removing old ones (like Diet Coke).
- Stay Flexible: Avoid rigid rules—your plan should adapt to your changing schedule.
One Small Step You Can Take Today
Sarah’s advice for getting started? Find the smallest possible step you can do today to move toward your goal.
For one client, that meant simply putting on tennis shoes every morning. That’s it. Sometimes the tiniest habit is the one that gets you across your bridge.
