What Is Subconscious Identity?
Your subconscious identity is the deeply ingrained sense of self that exists beyond your conscious thoughts. It’s shaped by past experiences, conditioning, and repeated narratives that have become ingrained over time. Mindi explains that we cannot outperform our subconscious identity. If we feel stuck, it’s often because our subconscious doesn’t feel safe stepping into the next level of success.
Why Does It Get in the Way of Our Success?
Our brains are wired for survival, not success. That means they will always prioritize the known over the unknown, even if the known isn’t serving us well. Mindi points out that we won’t step into change until the pain of staying the same outweighs the fear of the unknown. - Negative Self-Talk – That inner voice whispering, Who do you think you are? or Are you really worth this? is a major sign of subconscious resistance.
- Overthinking – If you find yourself trapped in analysis paralysis, constantly questioning every decision, it could stem from fear-based self-doubt.
- Overworking – Many high achievers tie their worth to productivity. If you struggle to rest without guilt, your subconscious may equate busyness with value.
- Fear of Judgment – If you hesitate to take action because you worry about what others will think, your subconscious identity is prioritizing perceived safety over success.

How to Shift Your Subconscious Identity
Mindi shares practical steps to start shifting your mindset and aligning with the identity of the person you want to become:
- Listen to Your Self-Talk – Pay attention to the quiet, critical voice in your head. Awareness is the first step to change.
- Visualize Success – Imagine yourself stepping into the version of you that has already achieved what you desire. What does it feel like? How does she think, act, and respond?
- Find Proof – Your brain filters reality based on what you believe. Start looking for evidence that supports your new identity. If you believe you are confident and capable, your brain will begin to show you proof.
- Take Small Actions – Micro shifts lead to big results. Practice stepping into the feeling of success in small, daily ways.
- Reframe Rest – Recognize that rest isn’t lazy; it’s essential for productivity and creativity. Shift your mindset to see rest as a strategic advantage, not a weakness.
