Q: Do you plan when you’re on vacation?

A: Do I think everyone should plan when they are on vacation? No. Do I plan when I am on vacation? Always.

Let me explain…

I am not a “relax by the pool vacationer”.

I don’t like naps.

I hate sitting in a hotel room.

And although I absolutely love books and reading, I found that I much prefer an audiobook paired with a walk to a hardcopy book when I have the option. Plane ride? Hardcopy book is where it’s at. But, if I am not movement-trapped, I prefer not to be sitting.

And because I always want to do EVERYTHING when on vacation, I find that planning it out helps in a million ways.

It helps make sure we have equal parts rest and activity. Because although I could be busy for an entire vacation, that is not the family I live with. 😉😏

It helps make sure the most exciting things are planned and scheduled. Did we need tickets beforehand? I’ve already got that covered.

It lets me feel satisfied at the end of our vacation instead of disappointed at all the things we didn’t do. I find when I don’t plan, I don’t get to do everything I want to do, and I walk out feeling just a little bummed.

I know that a lot of you are happy to sit by the pool, cocktail in hand, and just relax. Planning your day stresses you out. So… Don’t.

But if you’re a little bit like me… Planning just might be the solution to have the vacation you REALLY want.

One of our family values is time away from home, just US.

We love our vacations with our extended family (26 people in a beach condo anyone?)! We love out of town sporting events and performances with our groups.

But… there is something about time with JUST our family. It brings us back together in the midst of our insanely full lives. It connects us. (Yes, there are still fights.)

So, this week we are taking a few days together for Fall Break. I know this time is fleeting so I am soaking in every minute. 🥰
